At Jeffrey V. Jones, DDS, we enjoy the holiday time of year: jolly festivities, bright decorations and time with family are some of our favorite things. However, the holidays can be a harmful time for your teeth with the sweets we tend to eat. If you are wary, you can defend your teeth by going through which snacks to enjoy and which to forego. Here’s a little bit of extra data for you on which foods are okay to munch on.
If you have only one rule to keep for your dental health at this time of year, we’d suggest that you pass on sticky foods. Sticky foods, as you may guess, stick to your teeth and become grounds for bacteria to erode the defensive layers of your teeth, eventually making cavities. Foods like dried bananas, gumdrops and jelly beans are a few of the worst offenders. Do your best to avoid these foods and your teeth will be healthier; if you must eat them, be sure to brush and floss your teeth afterward to eliminate any leftover materials.
