Are you afraid of visiting the dentist? Does the sound of drills, machines and dentists talking about your teeth give you anxiety? If so, the dental practice of Jeffrey V. Jones, DDS offers sedation dentistry that will make your fears disappear.
To accommodate a variety of patient needs, we offer oral sedation, nitrous oxide and IV sedation. Dr. Jeff Jones and Dr. Kelly Buck will help determine the right anesthetic for you and help you get through your appointment with ease.
Oral, nitrous and IV sedation all have different characteristics that help them address the needs of our patients and dentists. Those differences include:
Nitrous oxide: This form of sedation combines a safe and effective chemical element with normal oxygen. Before the procedure, you can simply breathe through a small mask that releases the anesthetic. It will then begin to make you feel relaxed and tingly. Patients can typically drive themselves home after a treatment involving nitrous oxide.
Oral sedation: This procedure involves taking a pill before your treatment at the dental office. The pill will make you a little light-headed, but it will keep you composed and sedated during the entire process. Depending on the type of medication used, it is likely you won’t remember any of the treatment. You will need a driver to take you home and be with you for a few hours after the appointment.
IV sedation: This type of sedation involves the insertion of the sedative drug through a vein. This helps the sedative take effect quickly. The dentist is able to adjust the level of sedation and make sure you are as comfortable as possible. This will require the coordination of a dental anesthesiologist during your procedure.
