Nutrition Tips for Adults Over 60

Posted .

As a senior, dental care and oral hygiene are extremely important. But do you know what else is important? Nutrition. Having a balanced and healthy diet can help you maintain a strong and healthy smile for a lifetime. So, if you wish to keep your natural teeth, our Jeffrey V. Jones, DDS team recommends doing the following things:

· Eat the right foods: The best foods for your smile include whole grains, vegetables, fruits, lean proteins (like chicken, turkey, and fish), and low-fat dairy products. If anything, please keep away from processed foods.
· Consume the right beverages: Please limit your alcohol intake as much as possible. Alcohol tends to irritate the sensitive lining in the mouth and it also increases your risk of developing oral cancer. In addition, please stay clear from the sugary drinks. They can create tooth decay and lead to obesity.
· Get enough calcium: It is very important that you get enough calcium each day, which is about 1,000 milligrams. It’s best to get your calcium from foods and liquids, so we recommend consuming low-fat dairy milk, cheese, yogurt, broccoli, spinach, kale, and Swiss chard.
