Ask Dr. Jones and Dr. Buck about dental sealants if you would like a little extra protection from cavities for your or your child’s teeth. Sealants are a thin material that is painted over the chewing surfaces of the back teeth, forming a protective shield. Dental sealants are a great choice for children and teens whose premolars and molars are growing in. However, adults with no decay or fillings in the back teeth are also candidates for sealants.

To place dental sealants, Dr. Jones and Dr. Buck will first thoroughly clean the teeth that will receive them. Each tooth is dried and an absorbent material is placed around the teeth to keep them dry. An etching solution may be used on the chewing surfaces of the teeth. This allows the sealant to bond to the teeth. The teeth are then rinsed and dried off again. Our dentists will then paint the sealant onto the tooth enamel of the back teeth. A special light may be used to help the sealant harden.

Dental sealants can last for up to 10 years. However, it is important to note that they need to be checked for wearing and chipping during your regular dental appointments. Our dentist can easily replace sealants if needed. We welcome you to contact our office to schedule a consultation to find out if sealants in Dallas, Texas, are right for you.
